3 Best Martial Arts For Bodyguards

The three martial arts that I have gone for that are best for bodyguards to learn are all based on my experience, and once we learn a little bit about each of these martial arts, you will start to understand why I chose these three. Let’s take a look at the three best martial arts for bodyguards to know or learn.

  • Krav Maga
  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
  • Judo

There you have it. For the rest of this article, we will take a look at each of these individually and explain why they are so good for bodyguards. So, let’s get into it.

Krav Maga: Why It Is The Best Martial Arts For Bodyguards?

A bodyguard is not somebody who goes out of their way to look for trouble. In fact, the only times they respond is when they sense that danger is on its way to the person or object they are protecting.

For this reason, Krav Maga is the absolute best martial art for a bodyguard to learn because Krav Maga teaches you how to defend yourself rather than how to be the aggressor. With that said, the training can be used offensively if the bodyguard chooses.

Now, there are times when a bodyguard will sense danger, and they will need to attack first to prevent that danger from attacking them. With all of the self-defense tactics that are taught within Krav Maga, a bodyguard will be able to use those techniques to attack as well.

Why Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu So Good For Bodyguards?

So, this is a great martial art for anybody to learn, but for bodyguards, it has a wealth of benefits. We have already spoken about the fact that a bodyguard will not really attack somebody, but rather he will defend himself and his mission, the thing he is paid to protect when danger comes looking for him.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most effective martial arts for teaching people how to subdue a target or enemy in the most efficient way. So, once a bodyguard has defended himself against an attacker, the best thing for them to do is to place them into a submission hold to subdue them.

This is why, in my experience, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the second-best martial art for a bodyguard to learn. In some cases, it might actually be the best martial arts for a bodyguard to learn if that bodyguard already has effective fighting techniques to defend himself, and he just wants to learn how to subdue an enemy effectively.

Why Judo Is So Good For Bodyguards?

To understand why judo is so good for bodyguards, we need to understand what a bodyguard does when confronted with danger and what judo will teach you as a bodyguard. So, that is exactly what we are going to do in this section. Let’s get straight into it.

Judo is a grappling and throwing focused martial arts. It will teach you how to effectively grapple an opponent, whether they are bigger or smaller than you, and it will help you throw them to the ground.

A bodyguard will do everything in their power to complete their mission, and their mission is to protect an object, location, or person, so they will use any means necessary to do so.

With all of that being said, being able to grapple with anybody who is the same size as you or bigger is almost key to a bodyguard’s success. It is also extremely effective, trust me.

The Best Combination Of Martial Arts For Bodyguards

So, in detail, we have discussed the best 3 martial arts for a bodyguard to learn, and now we are going to discuss the best combination of martial arts for a bodyguard to learn. Obviously, the best combination is the 3 that we have already discussed. However, if you are skimming this article just to find this section, don’t worry. I will list the 3 martial arts here before we carry on.

  • Krav Maga
  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
  • Judo

These three martial arts can all work together to make your job as a bodyguard as easy as possible and to make you as effective in combat as you can be. In the next section, we are going to discuss why. So, keep reading.

Why These 3 Martial Arts Make The Perfect Combination For BodyGuards?

We have spoken about all 3 of these martial arts in detail, and that should give you a pretty good idea of what all 3 will bring to the table in making you the best bodyguard possible. Now, let’s recap and elaborate. To do this, we are going to create a fictional scenario.

Let’s say you are protecting a person and somebody comes up to you with a weapon, and your job as a bodyguard is to protect that person. Let’s see how these three martial arts work together in bringing down the danger.

First, you can use Krav Maga to effectively dispossess the attacker of their weapon. This will be your first form of self-defense, and in the scenario, we have imagined that the attacker is coming at you and not slowing down.

Next, we will use Judo. Once we have dispossessed the attacker of their weapon, our next step is to put them to the ground. Now, even though Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will be great for this, judo is also extremely effective at teaching you how to grapple regardless of the size of the person, and trust me, your attacker’s next move after being dispossessed will be to try and grab you.

Once he tries to grab you, you should have the upper hand and get him into a position where you can throw him to the ground.

Next up, we have Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and you are going to use this to subdue your opponent and put them in a submission hold once they are on the ground.

That was just one simple scenario, and in fact, in most cases, that would be one of the easiest scenarios to handle as a bodyguard. Hopefully, that small scenario allowed us to properly explain why learning a combination of martial arts is better than learning just one.

In fact, most militaries and government agencies use a combination of Martial arts in their training for this very reason.

Conclusion

I don’t really have much more that I can add to this article, but I guess I can close it off by saying that if you are a bodyguard or if you are looking to get into that kind of work, my best advice for you will be just to stay safe and remember to look after yourself as much as you look after your mission.
