One of the biggest reasons we go through all the trouble to groom ourselves for hours as men is to impress a lady or ladies if you are on the prowl. And when it comes to having a beard, one of the things you might have wondered, aside from which style women might find more attractive, is which color women might prefer. So what color beard is more attractive?
Our survey results showed no clear preference in a specific color that women preferred, but they overwhelmingly agree that they find a man’s natural beard color to be most attractive in general. 30% of the women also said they like a bit of grey in a beard as it gives a distinguished look to some men.
As interesting as the survey was, the results were surprising and not conclusive by any means. So this only leaves us with many different things to get through and discuss to make sense of the minds of the 15 women that we surveyed and draw our own conclusions from it. And, of course, leave you with some solid tips of how you can get the most out of your beard color to impress the ladies.
What Color Beard Is Most Attractive?
This is something that I’ve been wondering about for a long time and something I’ve never asked a woman and gotten a definitive answer for.
Personally, I always thought that women would prefer a black or very dark color beard and that a bit of grey would seal the deal. Maybe it was because I have a black beard and started to get some grey in my beard.
Nonetheless, we decided to take the question straight to the source and surveyed 15 women with the following questions:
- What color beard do you find most attractive? And why?
- What style of beard do you find most attractive? And why?
Key takeaways from the results of our survey
- No clear winner emerged in the color department. In fact, it seemed to be an even split between black, brown, red, and a bit of grey.
- The majority of the women said they preferred a man’s natural beard color.
- ALL of them said that if a man has a beard, it needs to be well-groomed and well-maintained at all times.
- A few women said they prefer no beard at all.
- A few women said that some men simply look better with a beard and even “ugly” without one.
- A few women mentioned George Clooney and were unresponsive to further questions.
Our conclusion from the survey
Beard style and color is very subjective when it comes to what women like, and that it can vary from man to man as well. They might prefer a beard on one man and not on another, black on one, brown on another, some with grey, some without, and some never at all.
This essentially leaves us with more frustration than when we started, but that might not be a bad thing. The humility that comes from not knowing can be a good force for us as men in how we perceive ourselves and help us build confidence instead of relying on a possible “fake” confidence, similar to what I had going into this with my black and grey beard.
When you meet a woman you are interested in and get along with well, ask her what she prefers. Based on her feedback, it’s up to you to then decide if you want to take her advice and change your beard to her liking or if you want to put your stake in the ground.
Most importantly, always keep your beard hygienic, well-groomed, well maintained, and depending on the women you meet, get used to being compared to George Clooney from time to time.
Now let’s look at some things you can do for your beard’s color and how to keep your beard healthy in general.
Can you change the colour of your beard?
There are many reasons why men would want to change the color of their beard. Maybe you feel adventurous and want to have a blue or green beard. Maybe a lady you’re trying to impress told you she likes a certain color beard on a man. Maybe you’ve discovered a few grey hairs, and you want to get rid of them but don’t want to start pulling them out one by one. So can you change the color of your beard?
Yes, you can change your beard’s color by using a specially formulated beard dye that you can buy from most shops. If you are not experienced or don’t want to do it yourself, you can go to a salon, and they can color your beard for you. They can also help you in choosing the right color for your beard.
How do you choose the right color for your beard?
Choosing your beard’s right color can be very tricky because it will be very different from person to person. If you’re looking to change your beard’s color, there are many things to consider, like your completion, style, facial features, natural beard color, hair color, and style, etc.
My advice would be to ask a professional which color beard would suit you the best and let them do it for you, giving you the peace of mind that you will not be making a huge mistake and possibly become the punchline of many jokes at a party. For the same reason, make sure the professional knows what they are talking about and doing.
In general, my advice would be to try and stick as close as possible to your natural beard color. Going too far away from this can make you end up with a very unnatural look unless you’re thinking of making your beard green or blue or something exotic like that, then I’d say go crazy with it!
How long does beard dye last for and How often should you dye your beard?
Most beard dyes on the market last between 2-4 weeks, depending on many factors, of course, but this would be the consensus.
That would also be how often you should be dying your beard every 2-4 weeks, but you can assess the state of your dye and color daily and apply the color again when you feel it’s needed or when the new hairs have started growing out and showing.
Can you apply hair color on beard?
Although you technically can apply hair color on your beard, and many people have done so, it is not something we would advise you to do.
Hair color formulated for your scalp might be too strong for your skin and face, which is much more sensitive and can cause several unwanted issues. Even though they mostly contain the same ingredients, it’s always better to be cautious when applying things to your skin and face.
There are so many great beard dye products available on the market today, with the prices being quite low for most of them, so you can easily get started on your beard coloring journey. As for me, I’m sticking to my guns with my black and grey, which I still feel gives a more distinguished look.
Conclusion
Hopefully you got some answers out of this article and quest into the mind of women to find out what color beard they find most attractive.
Without any conclusive results, at least we gained a bit of new insight into this world, and the journey carries on.
